About Young Eagles 14

Our Mission

Inspiring the Next Generation of Aviators

Young Eagles 14 introduces youth (ages 8–17) to general aviation through free orientation flights, hands-on learning, and mentorship—supported by the volunteers of EAA Chapter 14 at Brown Field (KSDM).

Who We Are

We’re volunteers—pilots, parents, students, and neighbors—who love aviation and want to share it. Our chapter partners with families, schools, and community groups to run safe, welcoming Young Eagles Days in San Diego.

Since the Young Eagles program began in 1992, millions of kids have flown for the first time with EAA chapters across the world. At Young Eagles 14, we focus on safety, fun, and learning—the ingredients that spark a lifetime of curiosity.

How a Young Eagles Day Works

1) Check-In & Safety

Families check in, complete a waiver, and attend a brief safety talk. We cover what to expect on the ramp and in the airplane.

2) Meet Your Pilot

Kids are paired with a qualified volunteer pilot. You’ll walk around the airplane together and talk about how everything works.

3) First Flight

The short flight is all about curiosity and confidence. Pilots narrate the experience and answer questions—often the most inspiring part.

4) Ground Activities

While you wait or after you fly, enjoy static displays, learning stations, and time with volunteers and fellow families.

5) Weather & Priority

Flights depend on weather and pilot availability. First-time Young Eagles receive priority; returning flyers are welcome as space allows.

Tip Arrive early—registration generally opens around 8:30 AM; safety briefing ~9:15 AM.

Custom Events & Group Flights

Beyond public Young Eagles Days, we coordinate special experiences for groups. If you’re planning an educational program or milestone, we can tailor a safe, engaging aviation day around your goals and schedule.

Great for:

  • Scouts (Aviation merit activities)
  • School field trips & STEM clubs
  • Civil Air Patrol (CAP) units
  • Birthdays & milestones
  • Homeschool groups & youth programs

What we can arrange:

  • Short orientation flights (weather/pilot availability permitting)
  • Safety briefings and Q&A with pilots
  • Static aircraft walk-arounds / photo opportunities
  • Hands-on ground activities and aviation demos

Note: Lead time helps us coordinate pilots, ramp access, and facilities. We’ll confirm details after a quick discussion about size, ages, and goals.

Safety & Youth Protection

Young Eagles flights are conducted by qualified volunteer pilots in general-aviation aircraft. We follow EAA guidelines, airport procedures, and weather minimums. If flying isn’t safe, we prioritize ground learning and rescheduling.

Parents/guardians sign a waiver at check-in, and we encourage questions at every step—briefings are plain-language and practical.

Note
Youth protection: We maintain a family-friendly environment and follow common-sense policies during events. Please reach out if your child has special needs—we’re happy to plan accommodations.
